6 Rules for Colored Hair
How well your color holds after the salon depends on your home routine. Here are the six rules that matter most.

1. Use sulfate-free shampoo
Sulfates strip color quickly. Sulfate-free formulas cleanse gently and reduce pigment loss. Also skip washing for the first 48 hours after color.
2. A weekly mask
A mask nourishes hair, locks in moisture and reduces color fatigue. Bond-repair masks are especially helpful after balayage or lightening.
3. No heat styling without protection
A heat protectant guards both color and hair health. Also keep the temperature moderate and the tool a little further from the strand.
4. Watch for sun and chlorine
For long sun exposure use a UV-protective spray. Before pools, wet hair with clean water and apply some conditioner to reduce chlorine's effect on color.
5. Refresh with a toner
Between color sessions, a mid-cycle toner keeps things vibrant — especially for blondes and balayage, taming red-orange reflections.
6. Book your appointment early
Putting off a refresh means a longer session every time. The sweet spot is when roots reach about 2 – 3 cm.

Occasional use is fine. Frequent use can disrupt scalp balance, so moderation matters.
