Balayage vs Ombre — Explained
Balayage and ombre are the two color techniques most people mix up. Both aim to look natural — but the application and result are different.

What is ombre?
Ombre is a horizontal color transition that starts at a defined point — usually around jaw level — and goes from darker to lighter toward the ends. It has a clear starting line and a dramatic feel. It works best on medium-to-long hair.
What is balayage?
Balayage is French for 'to sweep' — and that's exactly the technique: painting lighter tones into chosen sections of hair. The result is dimensional, sun-touched color with no defined starting line.
Which one is for you?
If you want a bold, defined change, ombre may be for you. If you prefer a natural look, don't want to deal with root regrowth, and want lower-maintenance color, balayage is usually the better choice. In our salon we spend the first ten minutes just understanding the look you want.
Care and maintenance
With balayage, the grow-out is soft so refresh windows are wide. With ombre, the transition point moves as hair grows, so some people refresh more often. Both last longer with sulfate-free shampoo and a weekly mask.
